I'm still alive, i promise.
Ok,when I saw that Suz, my lovely sister with a ridiculously hard internet connection had blogged before me I figured I was getting a little lazy.
Since I last posted I've spent a week at Fox Hollow Ranch with Nancy and Martin Richards and now I'm back with Katie and spending my time hanging around Portland.
My time at the ranch was spent at the dump, at the wheat bin drop thingy, in Madras, in the pond on the ranch and in Bend. After the rodeo I spent the next 4 days hanging around various Richards family members pretty much doing what they were doing (hence the trip to the dump...it was very exciting). I really liked hanging out, relaxing and trying to figure out how the hell I was going to get to the other side of the country.
Last thursday I went to stay with the eldest Richards, Gary in Bend. I hung out with his wife Shannon and their their two little girls Emma (2 years) and Isobelle (2 months). They were so cute and i would like to state for the record (and for Shannon and Nancy) that I was not AT ALL bored. I like kids.
Bend was awesome. They had an old fashioned soda fountain, lots of cool restaurants and a concert in the park by Liquid Soul. I'd never heard of them but they were very funky and I managed to (literally) run into the drummer on my way out of the bathroom.
Back in Madras I got to go out to the local pub The Meet Market with Kevin (youngest Richards) and his girlfriend Bree. It was really well lit which i found kind of weird, this old guy checked me out very verbally in front of the bar and also I forgot to tip. I'm constantly forgetting to tip here. Oopsy. But it was interesting night nonetheless.
Last sunday a group of us went white water rafting. Oh man, it was awesome. We went down class 3 and class 4 rapids, I rode the bull (front) of the raft down a few and we actually got out of the raft and "floated" down a rapid called the elevator. Except for having to pee almost the entire day and getting a little burnt it's been my favourite thing so far on this trip.
The last couple of days I've been hanging around Portland. I love it, it's a great city, one of my top three in fact (Seattle and San Francisco ar emy other two for those who are vaguely interested). On my first day I basically went on a three hour cupcake hunt around north-west Portland. Along the way I went past Chinatown, Oldtown and stopped for a midday concert by The Dimes. Never heard of them either but I really liked them. And i did eventually find the cupcakes. So delicious and well worth the massive walk. And i'm keeping the proud food obsessed Day tradition alive.
In the next few days days I'll be going to a midnight screening of the Rocky Horror Picture Show where I will NOT be telling that I'm a midnight Rocky "virgin". Katie's friend Rai/Raya (sorry!) has told us what they make you do (it involves a banana and a guy you don't know, and that's all i'm saying) and we will be lying when asked if we've been before.
I also fully intend to work my way through a top ten list of food in Portland. Delicious. and nutritious. and that's all folks.
